In a recent address during the inauguration of Mandate Secretaries for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, emphasized the commitment to the development of satellite towns within the region. This important declaration was made in Abuja, as the Minister acknowledged that the well-being and prosperity of the residents extended far beyond the city center. He stressed the significance of ensuring that all areas of the FCT experience progress and development.
The newly appointed Mandate Secretaries, entrusted with critical roles in the FCT Administration, include Mr. Bitrus Garki, Secretary of the Area Council Services Secretariat; Mr. Lawan Geidam, Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat; and Mr. Danlami Ihayyo, Secretary of the Education Secretariat, among others. Each of them will play a pivotal role in addressing various issues affecting service delivery in the FCT Administration, with particular emphasis on streamlining the procurement process.
Minister Wike underscored the essential principles of transparency, efficiency, and accountability as cornerstones of their administration. He pointed out that the Mandate Secretaries are not just advisors but also leaders and implementers of policies. Their duty lies in translating the vision for the FCT into tangible actions that will shape its future, aligning with the mission of rebuilding and developing it into a world-class city.
To realize this ambitious goal, the Minister emphasized the need to enhance Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through innovative approaches aimed at securing the necessary funds to support the development agenda. This financial strategy is considered crucial for financing the implementation of ambitious projects and initiatives that will benefit the FCT and its residents.
Moreover, Minister Wike identified public transportation as a significant challenge that requires comprehensive attention. He highlighted the fact that no modern city can function effectively and efficiently without a reliable and comprehensive public transportation system. Addressing this aspect of urban development will be a key focus to ensure the FCT's growth and success as a thriving metropolis.
