Makinde tells contestants; ‘Stop bickering over selection, Alaafin stool not for highest bidder’

In a recent address during the commissioning of the 34.85 kilometers Oyo-Iseyin Road, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State offered a valuable piece of advice to indigenes and princes who have been engaged in contentious debates regarding the selection of the new occupant of the revered Alaafin of Oyo stool. The vacancy in this esteemed position arose following the transition of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in April 2022. Governor Makinde firmly stated that the selection of the new Alaafin would not be influenced by financial considerations, emphasizing that the throne would not go to the highest bidder.

Addressing the residents of the town during the ceremony, Governor Makinde reiterated the importance of putting an end to the disputes and disagreements among the princes and interested parties vying for the prestigious title. He underscored his administration's commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the people of the state, highlighting the Oyo-Iseyin Road as a significant project that would facilitate access to various parts of the state.

Governor Makinde's words echoed a stern warning to those who might entertain thoughts of attempting to sell the throne. He cautioned that any individual with such intentions would ultimately face the consequences of their actions, emphasizing the need for the selection process to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Alaafin of Oyo position.

In his address, the governor expressed his delight in inaugurating a project that would not only enhance connectivity but also stimulate economic growth and investment in the Oyo and Oke-Ogun zones. He acknowledged the positive impact of the road on commuters and businesses in the region, highlighting the cost-saving benefits and improved accessibility that it would provide. Governor Makinde's remarks serve as a call for unity and a reminder of the importance of preserving the cultural and traditional heritage of the Alaafin of Oyo throne.
