Zenith Bank Plc has warned customers against providing
strangers with sensitive information about their bank accounts.
In a notice to customers, it said fraudsters have been
calling customers claiming to be representatives of the bank requesting
sensitive information.
“It has been brought to our
attention that some unknown individuals claiming to be representatives of
Zenith Bank PLC are making phone calls to innocent Nigerians asking for
confirmation of their debit card details and ATM PIN to enable them to disburse
a purported COVID-19 relief material from the federal government.
“Please be advised that this is a
scam being perpetrated by fraudsters to access your account.”
Giving details of how the fraudsters operate, the bank said:
“Such fraudsters could claim that they represent the bank, dictate your bank
verification number (BVN), date of birth and ask you to confirm such details.
They would then request for your debit card details and ATM PIN.
“Zenith bank would never call, SMS
or e-mail requesting for your card details, PIN, token codes, mobile/internet
banking login details or other account-related information.”
The bank advised customers not to respond to such calls.
