The presidency has denied offering N100 billion naira to the
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). Reports were
rife online today claiming the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau, met
with members of the herdsmen association last Friday May 3rd and offered them
N100 billion to stop the kidnappings.
Reacting to the claim, the Senior Special Assistant to the
President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in an interview with Channels
TV, said the report is an absolute falsehood.
“That is an absolute falsehood. In all of those meetings,
nothing like money was discussed,” he said when asked if the Federal Government
offered the sum to the association.
According to Shehu, the meeting was for the leadership of
the group to prevail on its erring members as the existence of miscreants in
the group does not in anyway mean that everyman in the group has a criminal
mind.
