In just a few weeks following its release, Marvel‘s
highly-acclaimed film, Avengers:
Endgame, is said to have surpassed the 21-year-old record set by Titanic which
grossed $2.12bn in the box office.
With this record, the Marvel
is blockbuster is now the world’s second highest grossing film of all
time, with an estimated worth of $2.189 billion.
There’s an $18.9 million difference between Avengers:
Endgame and Titanic: $619.7 million was grossed domestically, that is within
the US domestic box office. This surpassed the $600.8 million Titanic grossed
during its initial theatrical run after its opening in December 1997.
Titanic also grossed an additional $58.6 million when it was
re-released in 2012 and 2017.
Avengers: Endgame is one of the highest grossing films:
Since its launch on April 24, Avengers: Endgame has become one of the highest
grossing films across the world including China, where it grossed $545.8
million.
The movie also broke the Box Office record with its worldwide
record of $1.2 billion, including $357 million grossed locally; Nigeria.
Avengers
As at the second weekend since its release, the movie has
climbed an estimated amount of $145.8 million and has eased off the blistering
pace in the US and Canada.
This figures fell a little short, failing to pass the $149.2
million second weekend record set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens over the
Christmas holiday in 2015.
When factoring in ticket price inflation, Marvel’s Avengers:
Endgame still has some ground to cover.
On the Box Office Mojo’s chart of inflation-adjusted
grosses, the best (if imperfect) measure of a film’s overall popularity with
domestic audiences, Endgame ranks as roughly the 42nd highest grossing film of
all time.
By comparison, when adjusted for inflation, Titanic grossed
roughly $1.16 billion in theatres in the US and Canada during its initial
release.
Due to varying ticket price inflation rates and unreliable
record keeping, it is virtually impossible to reasonably adjust for box office
inflation worldwide.
However, fans everywhere are hoping the film could break
Avatar‘s box office records of $2.788 billion which is made from December 2009
through to February 2010.
