Yesterday, Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, had a
state broadcast in which he reacted to the controversial APC governorship
primary held in the state on Tuesday October 2nd.
In his speech, Governor Ambode conceded defeat in the
primary which was contested by himself and his main rival Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Ambode congratulated Sanwo-Olu and urged all the party members to give the
party flagbearer all the support he deserves to win the election in 2019.
New facts have emerged as to why the governor conceded
defeat. A source in the party who spoke with Punch, said Governor Ambode was
advised by the chieftains of the party, to accept defeat or the state House of
Assembly who have also thrown their support behind Sanwo-Olu, would set in
motion his impeachment process if he decided to fight dirty.
''“He (Ambode) did not want the matter to get to that level;
that is why he accepted the defeat to reduce the tension in the state and stop
any panicky action by the party elders. He also wanted them to leave him in
peace to complete all his projects,” the source said
