The Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has been
screened out of the Oyo state APC governorship primaries for not possessing the
NYSC certificate.
Recall that last week, it was widely reported the Minister's
failure to participate in the mandatory one-year scheme when he graduated from
the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1978. After graduating from the Nigerian Law
School in 1979 at 25, Adebayo instead of registering for the mandatory one year
scheme, ran for a seat in the Oyo state House of Assembly and won.
The National Working Committee of the APC, took the decision
to screen him out based on the report of the party’s Governorship Aspirants
Screening Committee.
The party has also screened out the Minister of Women
Affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan, from the Taraba state governorship race. No
reason was given. Alhassan had been the party’s governorship candidate in
Taraba State during the 2015 general elections.
