LaLiga: Best player in Spain this season named Sergio Aguero

Former Barcelona teammate Sergio Aguero has awarded Sergio Busquets with the prestigious title of La Liga Player of the Year. Busquets, who spent an impressive 18 years at Barcelona and accumulated 722 appearances across various competitions, solidified his reputation as one of the world's top defensive midfielders during his tenure.

However, Busquets' time at the Spanish club is drawing to a close, as he is set to depart as a free agent after Barcelona's final game this weekend. Despite his impending departure, the legendary Spanish midfielder has left an indelible mark on the team.

Aguero, who joined Barcelona from Manchester City but faced setbacks due to heart issues, recognized Busquets' instrumental role in Barcelona's La Liga title victory this season. When asked to select his choice for La Liga player of the season by betting site Stake.com, Aguero acknowledged the impressive performance of Vinicius Jr but ultimately singled out Busquets.

In Aguero's view, Busquets excelled in his final season at Barcelona, embodying the club's distinctive style and providing the team with the essential balance needed to secure the league title.

As Busquets prepares to bid farewell to Barcelona, his accolade as La Liga Player of the Year adds to his remarkable legacy at the club. His contribution to Barcelona's success and his influence on the team's playing style will be remembered for years to come.

Why Ronaldo wasn't pleased with me - Manchester United midfielder

Why Ronaldo wasn't pleased with me - Manchester United midfielder

Christian Eriksen, the Manchester United midfielder, recently shared a lighthearted anecdote about Cristiano Ronaldo not being pleased with him taking a free kick for the club. According to Eriksen, earlier in the 2022/23 season, he took a free kick instead of Ronaldo, which apparently didn't sit well with the Portuguese superstar.

Eriksen, who joined Manchester United last summer as a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, had the opportunity to play alongside Ronaldo for only a few months before the latter's departure from the club in November. During their time together, Eriksen revealed that there were multiple players capable of taking free kicks, including himself, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford. Ronaldo, of course, was also part of this group.

The Danish international explained, "Even now at the club, we have multiple takers who, if he [Ronaldo] had a good day, he is going to have it. [Eriksen, Fernandes] and Rashy." Eriksen humorously admitted that he took a free kick instead of Ronaldo on one occasion, and it seems that Ronaldo wasn't too pleased about it. Eriksen's comment suggests that there is a friendly competition among the players regarding free-kick responsibilities.

He further explained the dynamic, saying, "But then, with the three we have now, it is where we are on the pitch, how people are feeling, so it is like 'You had the last one, I will have the next one.'" This highlights the understanding and flexibility within the team when it comes to determining who will take free kicks, with the decision being based on factors such as positioning on the field and the players' confidence.

Eriksen's anecdote offers a glimpse into the camaraderie and light-hearted banter that exists within the Manchester United dressing room. While the incident may have momentarily displeased Ronaldo, it is clear that there is a healthy level of competition and respect among the players when it comes to sharing set-piece responsibilities.

EPL: Lampard reveals he will return to Chelsea

EPL: Lampard reveals he will return to Chelsea

Frank Lampard, the interim manager of Chelsea, has openly expressed his intention to return to the club as a devoted supporter in the future on numerous occasions.

Lampard's short-term contract is set to conclude on Sunday, following Chelsea's match against Newcastle in the Premier League. In his second stint as manager, the former England midfielder aims to secure his first home victory.

Unfortunately, Lampard has faced significant challenges since taking charge, with his team suffering defeat in eight out of the ten games he has overseen.

Despite his recent dismissal as manager in January 2021, Lampard, who amassed an impressive record during his 13-year tenure as a player in west London, did not make a prompt return to Stamford Bridge. However, he did make a comeback in April this year to watch Chelsea's goalless draw against Liverpool.

The 44-year-old has now provided an explanation for his absence and made a heartfelt commitment to be a familiar face among the fans. Lampard emphasized that he would always maintain a deep connection with the club's supporters, given his history as both a player and coach. He also noted that residing in close proximity to the stadium would enable him to attend Chelsea matches frequently. Lampard acknowledged that embarking on a managerial career does not guarantee an indefinite stay at a club where he spent 13 remarkable years as a player.

In summary, Lampard's departure as interim manager does not signify a permanent separation from Chelsea. He intends to maintain a strong bond with the club's passionate fans, supporting the team as a devoted follower and making regular appearances at Stamford Bridge.

You're not alone - Kylian Mbappe messages Real Madrid's Vinicius after racist incident; LaLiga

Paris Saint-Germain's sensational forward, Kylian Mbappe, has expressed his support for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior following the racial abuse the Brazilian player endured from La Liga supporters. The distressing incident took place during Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat against Valencia in a La Liga match.

Vinicius was subjected to racism and verbal abuse from fans at the Mestalla Stadium. He identified the group of fans responsible during the second half, leading to a temporary pause in play as referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea notified stadium officials, urging them to intervene and put an end to the racist chants.

According to Scroll, the referee, in his post-match report, confirmed that a fan had directed racial slurs such as "monkey, monkey" towards Vinicius.

The situation reached its peak during stoppage time in the second half when Vinicius was shown a red card for pushing Valencia's Hugo Duro in the face, following a VAR review. It is worth noting that this incident occurred after Valencia players confronted Vinicius and Duro put him in a headlock. Surprisingly, Duro faced no disciplinary action for his actions.

In response to the incident, Vinicius took to Instagram to share a lengthy message, highlighting that racism is unfortunately prevalent in La Liga.

In a show of solidarity, Mbappe, a fellow football superstar, demonstrated his support for the 22-year-old attacker by posting an Instagram story with the message: "You're not alone. We are with you & we support you."

This gesture from Mbappe serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and standing against racism in the world of football, sending a powerful message of support to Vinicius Junior and condemning the despicable behavior exhibited by a few individuals in the stands.

He said, “Today’s record-breaking result further proves that the demand for Michael Jordan sports memorabilia continues to outperform and transcend all expectations.”

Turin police have fined 171 Juventus fans and banned them from their stadium after racist chants were directed at Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku during the Italian Cup semi-final between the two teams on April 4. Representatives for Lukaku called the chants "hostile and disgusting racist abuse". The police cited "racist chants" in a brief statement announcing the fines, but did not provide details of the penalties or the duration of the stadium ban.

Following the match, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) closed Juventus' stadium for one game due to racist chants from "the majority of fans" in the section where the chanting took place. However, the ban was overturned on appeal.

Lukaku was suspended for one game for receiving two yellow cards, the second for his goal celebration in front of Juventus fans after scoring a stoppage-time penalty that secured a 1-1 draw for Inter. He held his finger to his lips and told the Juve supporters to "shut up". The suspension was later lifted by the FIGC following public outrage, allowing Lukaku to play in the second leg of the semi-final in Milan on Wednesday.
